So the show was the Peels and Autolux openning for The Raveonettes. We left before the Raveonettes because we're old, and had to wake up way too early today. The Peels: The singer I will call Hottness Swinging A Microphone. ANd she was, both hot, and constantly swinging her mic by the cord. She caught it every time! There must have been quite a lot of preparation that had to go on there. It made her even more hot, but at the same time seemed contrived and fake. That and I kept waiting for her to smack the drum kit or the bassists or someone in the face with the damn mic. I mean, come on... the stage at North Star Bar is SMALL! They had a bit of a Yeah Yeah Yeah crossed with Sousxie and then toss in some 60's rock in there. They were good. A lot of energy. Check 'em out
Autolux: The setup seemed kind a complex. The guitarist had a HUGE effects panel, and they had frames wrapped in christmas lights and these odd swing-y blue lightbulbs that had to be positioned around the stage. They all seemed very dark and sad and intent. They were all in black, except for the chick drummer who's black vintage dress had white embroidery on it (covet!). They all had almost the same haircut (sort of chin length and brushed forward in their faces). The bass and guitar were aluminum foiled, or something. At least that's what it looked like.
Once they started I was lost. Their music just wrapped around us. The sound almost never stopped since at the end of one song, the guitarist was already recording loops to play during the next song. Gradually the singer/bassist started to smile a bit (maybe 'cause of the good reaction to the crowd?). They just kept going on and on and on. The drummer chick was unbelievable! They didn't play my favorite some (Sugarless), but they played Blanket, my second favorite, so it's cool. Listen here this is their site but it doesn't tell you much of anything Got home at around 11:30. Felt like ass most of the day because of lack of sleep. But I'm happy. |
